Custom Seed Harvesting: Hancock Seed Company is a grower, harvester, processor and distributor of many types of crop and field seeds that are used in residential, commercial and agricultural applications. To have our company harvest seed on a share crop basis we require a minimum of 100 acres located within a 200 mile radius of our processing plant in Dade City, Florida.

To insure for a successful seed production every year, burning is a guaranteed way to help. Agricultural burning is defined as the burning of vegetative debris from agricultural operations necessary for disease or pest control, crop propagation, or crop rotation, or where identified as a best management practice.

Why you should grow Bahiagrass for harvest? In the last few years Bahiagrass production has slowly decreased and market price has rapidly increased. Severe weather has played a big part in decrease in production. Hancock Seed Company will assist the grower in the production of Argentine or Pensacola Bahiagrass Seed prior to harvest. Our company will determine what fertilizer should be used and when the seed is ready to harvest. After we harvest the seed we transport the seed to our processing plant.misc_pics_022.jpg The seed will be spread over the drying bins and dried the same night it was harvested. The next day the seed is processed and placed in 50 lb bags for testing. Private and State tests are performed at the harvesters expense. The bags are labeled with lot numbers that correspond with the person’s seed we harvested. The seed will be split 50% to the grower and 50% to the harvester. The process of share cropping has been very successful over the past thirty years. How much can I make if I grow 100 acres of Bahiagrass?

The Average Example for Argentine or Pansacola: 2007combine_pictures_022.jpg
100 acres 250 lbs crop yield per acre 25000 lbs harvested $1.50-$2.00 per lb.($1.75 example) = $43,750.00 total yield. After harvest share, grower receives 50% of the crop yield at wholesale market value. In the example the grower would receive $21,875.00 for share harvest yield at $1.75 per pound as well as the pasture will be conditioned for hay and cattle production following seed harvest. Fertilizer expense can be placed as an expense for cattle, seed and hay production as it benefits all three. Fertilization for grass seed production will be less than $5000.00 for a 100 acre crop depending on soil conditions. Bahiagrass production qualifies land to fall under greenbelt. Every so often a crop will yield as high as 800 lbs per acre and the profits can be tremendous.

Our company will provide seed production instructions and advice to insure the highest crop yields possible. To insure that your crop will be harvested please contact us before May 1st to be placed on the harvesting list.
